TMJ & Tinnitus Clinic.

TMJ:

Posture Dynamics specialise in helping disorders and conditions of the Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ). This is the hinge joint that connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the temporal bone of the skull, which is immediately in front of the ear on each side of the head. Common symptoms from this joint include:

  • Localised jaw “tension” pain
  • Clicking of the jaw
  • Jaw stiffness and locking
  • Tinnitus
  • Headaches

Osteopathy and Cranial Osteopathy can be very effective at treating TMJ dysfunction.

The osteopath will assess and analyse your entire posture along with any restrictions throughout your central nervous system.
Not only can the head and neck and throat be affecting your jaw but mechanical disturbances in your lower back and even the feet maybe adding to the tension. These areas are addressed with treatment. Intra oral work (gentle work within the mouth) maybe carried out to help restore function of the jaw.

Tinnitus:

Tinnitus (described as “ringing in the ears”) is a common symptom. It may vary from a buzzing, humming, whistling, hissing or whistling sound heard. Cranial osteopathy can be very effective at easing or getting rid of these symptoms.

Dysfunction of the jaw maybe one of the causes of tinnitus. Special attention is given to releasing tension through the TMJ, cranium, neck, throat and muscles controlling the movement of the jaw. Intra oral work may again be used to treat tinnitus.

Tension throughout the body may cause symptoms of tinnitus. This tension may not be arising from the TMJ, but other areas of the body. When these areas of restriction and tension have been addressed, it may help restore the function of the ear and hence the symptoms of tinnitus maybe helped or even fully restored to normality.
